Homeschooling Through the Coronavirus Pandemic: An Interview With PBS NewsHour

by | Aug 31, 2020 | Homeschool, Podcasts & Videos

The sudden onslaught of homeschooling families due to the pandemic has shifted the community in positive ways. It has brought heightened awareness to the joys of home education, opened eyes to the opportunities provided by the lifestyle, and also garnered attention for the diligence and dedication homeschooling parents demonstrate while educating their children.

But it hasn’t been without growing pains.

Many parents have felt utterly overwhelmed, confused, and frightened by the prospect of being responsible for their children’s learning. And some have declared that they would never ever willingly take on the role of teacher. There is also the very real concern of “not enough hours in the day” from parents who work full-time in and outside of the home as they scramble to pull all of the pieces together.

I was excited to be interviewed again by PBS NewsHour last week to discuss these issues and more. I also spoke to them a couple of years ago about the increase of Black families choosing to homeschool. Enjoy!

As a “newer” homeschooling mom ( my littles are almost 5 and 6, so we are just looking at more “structured” learning), it’s great to see well established brown moms encouraging all families with the “do-ability” of home education. Like all aspects of parenting, it’s time and energy consuming, but so rewarding. Thanks for your great content!

You’re welcome! I’m glad that you’re here. I love talking about home education and encouraging families who want to give it a try. It has been one of my life’s biggest blessings, and it’s so fulfilling to share it with others.
