I am so pleased with the breadth of people and organizations that are seeking to explore the idea of homeschooling within the Black community. I continue to get requests from outlets interested in highlighting the ups and downs of our experiences within the broader, mostly white, homeschooling community, and I honestly think these are the types of conversations that will broaden understanding and build bridges.
This week I was interviewed in Brigham Young University’s BYUradio, and we discussed Breaking the Homeschooling Stereotype. <<< Link to interview
During the interview, Julie Rose, host of their afternoon Top of Mind show, dug into some of the more nuanced aspects of what my family has experienced since we began homeschooling. We chatted about the growing number of Black homeschoolers in America, why I started a Black homeschool group, and even how I respond to people who say that the creation of my group is an example of reverse racism.
Much like with last week’s interview with a Catholic publication, I really appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to speak in spaces where Black voices have not always been represented or represented well.
You can catch up with me on Instagram @heritagemomblog, and I look forward to sharing highlights from more of these conversations with you soon.
