Weekly Roundup: Worldschooling Q&A (Kid Edition)

by | Dec 12, 2017 | Homeschool, Travel

This week’s questions were answered by my 8 year old daughter.

  1. What was the best or most delightful part? We went to a Christmas party [holiday bazaar at a local school] where there was a guy dressed up like Santa Claus, and we took pictures with him. We made gingerbread houses, and I painted a [ceramic] fox. There were lots of shops [artesian booths], and my favorite store was one that had a cute wallet, and there was another one that had 2 nice jewelry boxes.
  2. What was the worst, most disappointing, or most difficult part? The most disappointing thing is that we ordered a shipment of things from the USA. I think our Christmas gifts were in the shipment, but it’s not coming, and I don’t think it’s going to be here before Christmas.
  3. What do you love the most about your adopted home? I like that I have my own bedroom with space for my own toys. I’m going to start setting everything up more on Christmas, and then I’m going to pack it all up when we move back home. I also like that there are bigger and better playgrounds here. There are big huge slides and even a ferris wheel at one of them. I really like everything here except the food.
  4. What would you change if you could? I would change the food because it tastes horrible. There’s only one food here that I really, really like. It’s a certain bread from the bakery with a slice of cheese.
  5. What mistakes have you made? I accidentally drank some of the water from the sink, but I didn’t get sick from it yet. I don’t know what happened in Peru though because I threw up 4 times, and I couldn’t get up. I wasn’t really hungry at all.
  6. What did you learn? Once we were climbing up a really tall mountain which was really just a steep road. We could barely talk because we were out of breath, and we were so tired. There were 2 Bolivian boys behind us who were whistling and happy going up the mountain. What I learned is that the people who live here are used to the altitude, but it’s hard for us.
  7. What do you miss the most about home? I miss my toys like my Barbies, and I miss going inside Target and JoAnn Fabrics.
  8. What new word(s) did you learn? Ciao (Good-bye here instead of adios); Cuanto cuesta? (How much is it?) – That’s what Mama asks before we get out of the taxis. There are no women taxi drivers here.
  9. What are you enjoying the most about your school work? I like that I’m getting to help Mama with her blog instead of writing in my travel journal today. I’m finishing Along Came a Dog [by Meindert DeJong].
  10. What is the most interesting thing you’ve seen? The grocery store by our house has free gifts taped to the outside of the food packages, and it has other fun things like a smoothie shop, gift-wrapping, toys, a shop with Christmas decorations, and a pharmacy. And I saw people eating guinea pigs. I stared just that one time, but I don’t usually stare at people doing different things.
