Recent Podcasts and Videos: Homeschooling, Worldschooling, and Motherhood

One of the things I love most about my work with Heritage Mom is getting to speak with dynamic women who inspire me with their questions and insights. I’ve been busy catching up with some amazing ladies over the past few months, and I want to share a few of those conversations here. I hope you’ll enjoy listening in and that you’ll find seeds of encouragement tucked between the talking and laughter.

Don’t Mom Alone Podcast

Heather MacFadyen and I had the opportunity to chat on the Don’t Mom Alone Podcast [Episode 310]: Finding Yourself In Motherhood. What I loved about our conversation was the exploration of my expectations of motherhood vs. the reality of where I find myself today. So much growth has occurred, and sometimes the acknowledgement of what I’ve gained gets lost in the tales of what I’ve given to my children. Whether you homeschool or not, you’re likely to connect with something familiar in this episode.

Jennifer Murch Interview

Have you ever written letters back and forth with an old friend? I haven’t done too much of that, but I can imagine how it must feel to get to know each other through the written word, and I recently got just a taste of that experience when Jennifer Murch interviewed me. We went back and forth via email and then she put together the most amazing post on her blog introducing everyone to my family and How We Homeschool. If you’re interested in learning more about me, I invite you to pop over to her site and “meet” me.

Scholé Sisters Podcast

In this conversation with Brandy Vencel and Abby Wahl, I shared about a subject that is near and dear to my heart: foreign language study. It isn’t important to me because I’m great at it (I’m not bilingual) but because I want my family to have the opportunity to converse with our sisters and brothers nearby and from other parts of the world. On this episode of Scholé Sisters Podcast [Episode 84]: Passport to Foreign Language, we share what we’re all currently reading and then we launch into why I feel we have a duty to learn another language and how I study foreign language with my family.

Modern Miss Mason Podcast

In this episode of the Modern Miss Mason Podcast, I got to speak with my friend across the pond, Leah Boden, about Contentment as a Growth Strategy. Recorded as part of a Podcast Zoom Live event in January, this was simply an opportunity for me to share my heart about where I am, emotionally, these days. Things have shifted ever so slowly year after year, and today I find myself worlds away from where I was a decade ago. Yet, every bit of the journey has been good in its own time.

Simply Charlotte Mason Podcast

And speaking of foreign language study, I recently sat down to speak with Sonya Shafer on the Simply Charlotte Mason Podcast for an episode on Worldschooling or homeschooling while traveling abroad. Our latest trip to Athens, Greece was cut short by the pandemic, but we were previously able spend three months in South America and are looking forward to hitting the road again as soon as we’re able. You can listen on your favorite podcast app, read the transcript, or watch below. If you’re interested in learning more, I’ll be speaking about Worldschooling, among other things, at the Charlotte Mason Together Retreat in Stone Mountain, Georgia on July 22-24, 2021.

Humility & Doxology Podcast

When Amy Sloan first asked me to be on her show, I felt like I should be the one interviewing her! Both Amy and her husband are second-generation homeschoolers which is something you don’t see too often, and I was so intrigued by her story. Our conversation on the Humility and Doxology Podcast: Story-Formed, Wonder-Filled Homeschooling episode touched upon a number of different areas. We spent time talking about my original reasons for homeschooling (which have nothing in common with why I continue to do it today), and what it means to offer our children a slow childhood. Read the transcript or take a listen at the link above or watch below.

If you have follow-up questions after listening to or watching any of these shows, please drop them in the comments below. I’d love to keep the conversation going!

Excellent! I downloaded a few of these for upcoming car rides 😉

I loved hearing about your trips on the Simply Charlotte Mason podcast–we are a traveling family, too. We haven’t done any big trips like your family has, but we (well, *I*!) love to travel and we had a big 3-week, 4-country Europe trip planned last summer that was of course cancelled. We had studied about 3 of the 4 countries the entire school year, and my kids helped plan the trip; that was very disappointing.

Thanks for the list-I always love to hear podcasts about homeschoolers doing really unique things like big international travel.

You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy the ones you get a chance to listen to! And I COMPLETELY understand the disappointment about your trip. Though we were able to complete some of our European trip, we had to return home early due to COVID. It was really hard to accept that something so unforeseen could derail our plans.

I listened to your podcast on Simply Charlotte Mason. Not sure that we are likely to world school but it was an encouragement for a smaller trip which we are planning, within Europe. I look forward to reading more and listening to some of the other podcasts.

Thank you for taking the time to listen! I think smaller trips are just as wonderful. In fact, that allows you to visit more places and travel more often.

Wow! I am soooo happy to find your blog. I really like the CM method but the book lists do not represent people of color well. I will be looking for your recommendations.

I’m glad you’re here as well! The booklists that you see online are other people’s interpretations of the kinds of books she would use. It will and should vary for each family, so you can easily apply her principles with your own list of books for a top-notch CM education. FREEDOM! 🙂
